Pine Burr quilt

Even wat feiten.

I love this quiltpattern!!  It has been a long time since I had so much fun using my fabrics . Even some of my 'not so favorite' fabrics. And there is a lot of fabric in this block! It is just like a cake with way too much whipped cream, fruits and chocolate, but so delicious!!
Some facts. This pattern is called the pine burr quilt pattern. The origin of the pattern is not clear. Quilts with this pattern were found in the 19th century in England, USA en Russia. It is the national pattern of Alabama since 1997.

Do you want to see how I constructed this block yesterday?

I started with a 12 inch square of background fabric and pointed out the middle of the square.

For the fabric to sew on top, I cut pieces 3 by 3 inches big.

I started with  4 red pieces. I folded them diagonal, twice, see picture above.

With the closed points to the middle I sewed them in place and cut of the extra bit of seam allowance.

Here you see me cutting.

This is the result after 2 rounds. To start a new round I took 1 or 2  triangles extra.

Derde ronde..

Third  round..

You can see here, I pinned round 5 first, before sewing. I just eye-balled the placement;)

And another step...I think this looks so beautiful and it also feels very nice. I think you can use all kinds of fabrics, colours and fabric with patterns (big or small) or without a pattern. I even used fabrics I normally wouldn't like to use often and fabrics that were in my closet for a long time, for example most of the purple ones.

Tadaa...Klaar!

Tadaa..finished!

Would you like to see a very nice blog which I found from Lee Ann, look here at  nifty quilts  Her quilts are amazing and her way of working is really a great inspiration to me.

Guess what the next thing is I will do now......make more of those blocks!!!

Groetjes
en een gezellig weekend! Lukt vast met dit super handwerkweer buiten!

Your Pine Burr block is beautiful! Your instructions are good and very easy to understand. You thought of trimming off the excess before adding the next row. I had not thought of that. Now you are making me want to make more too! I'm sure you've inspired others as well. Thank you for mentioning my blog.

Super leuk!!
