I bought this book a while ago. The publisher is Quiltmania. The book is called: "Chintz Quilts from the Poos collection' written by: Kay & Lori Lee Triplett and Xenia Cord. It is filled with lots of history, which I like a lot. It is big, hardcover and the photo's are beautiful.
Inside I noticed a total new way of applique to me. If you look close you will see they (or probably she) used a herringbone stitch, with just one colour, which matches the background fabric. It is written in the book that: " the herringbone applique has the advantages of being more flexible and allows the shape to be seen without distraction" and only found on British quilts. This is a unfinished quilttop from ca 1830.
I had to try that technique. I started with a pattern bought in the Etsy shop from Lori from Bee in my Bonnet.
The pattern is about gardening and not a classic pattern but more modern looking. Anyway I tried it and it was a very easy going way of appliqueing. It is very forgiving too. I will show a close-up picture.
I forgot to say I ironed the applique pieces first to the background using a light weight fusible web. Nice result don't you think? It is different but it gives a soft appearance.
Here are the dogs relaxing whil on holiday. We hope to sell our appartment one day but It will take a while I think. We hope to buy a house with a garden so the dogs can be outside whenever they want. Doesn't have to be big (don't like the cleaning;)
Tomorrow is my last day at work in the quiltshop, the Sampler. I will miss my work very much. There is a new owner, but is not taking over the employees. I'm very curious how the shop will bee, what the new ideas are and what kind of fabrics there will be for sale.
Have a good weekend,
Fijn weekend,
