"The pride of Rotterdam' is the name of this little quilt. It is also the name of the Ferry on wich we sailed from England, when my husband and me were on holiday this summer. In the ship I saw this kind of pattern on the floor and we tried to remember it as good as possible. Home again I took a piece of paper and together we figured out this pattern. It took a while because the little black square is not drawn on the diagonal.
To make the coloured squares are printed on paper to make 'paper piecing foundations'. The sewing had to be very precise, a real challenge.
My husband turned 50 this summer-holiday so I made this quilt for him.
Als je naar de quilt kijkt zie je steeds andere vormen. Hij was wat saai en lastig om te maken maar zeker de moeite waard!
I am a litlle late finishing it but he was happy with it and we hung it on the wall in his study the same day!
Every time you look at the quilt you see different shapes. It was a bit boring and tricky to make but it was worth it!

The finished 'klosjesquilt' en me did a fotoshoot in between rainshowers.
Finishing this gave me a very good feeling. It took a whil befor I quilted it. The centerpart is handquilted and the border machinequilted. So is the binding.
On the grass...
Close-up. All the 'klosjes' are sewed by machine, wich was sometimes a bit tricky because of the corners who are cut on the biais.
The backing is made from a 'toile de joue' fabric wich I love very much. It was too thick to use for handquilting so that is something to remember.
The binding is made of leftover fabric from the klosjes. It was the first time i did this I think and I like it this way. I will certainley do this again.
The quilt is washed with colourcatchers and it all went well. The backingfabric is much softer now.
The fabric was a bit too short so I made it longer by using a small scrapstrip.

Under the trees again...
Het heeft even geduurd voordat ik weer een stukje schreef maar ik ben blij dat ik het nu weer opgepakt heb!
Now time to fold it up and back inside again. Another job done!
It took me some time to start writing again but I'm glad to be back!
