Old quilttop

This is an old quilttop that I bought. I like the different fabrics and to me they look like fabrics from the 40'ties or 50'ties. The blocks are looking allright but the pink (or lilac) pieces in between don't stay flat. The blocks are handsewn and the pink pieces are sewn with the machine in a very unaccurate way. I talked to some people about it at my quiltstore and some friends but most of them would not take it apart but leave the top the way it is. May be it is the best thing to do. At first I wanted to replace the pink parts but every block has a different size. That would then be a very big job and it wouldn't be an antique top but a bit of everything.

It is hanging in my sewingroom right now and I like looking at the colors and the odd looking fabrics. It's my first old quilttop I bought and I'm happy with it!

Overhanddoek

I found this embroderied cloth on a fair for second hand goods. In Holland it was used in the kitchen to hang in front of the towels and we call it an 'overhanddoek'. Nowadays I don't know anybody that still uses them. I know my grandmother did when I was young. This is the second one I found. I wil show the other one if I remember where I put it...It is not that I lost it but I searched for a very safe place to store it, so safe I don't remember. And I'm not even 50 years old yet...

You still can make cloths similar like this one ( I didn't find the same pattern though) and buy patterns. For example
here

Tomorrow I will show a quilttop I bought last week. It's hanging to dry now...

Surprise Spring Swap

My 'Surprise Spring Swap' is being sent yesterday, and is on it's way to Fallon !!! I don't want to place any photo's of the swap because I'm afraid to spoil the surprise. I made several photo's but they are all showing so much of the surprise.. I'm very curious about the swap. We will know more in one week, I think.

Small quilt, little houses and flower garden

These little houses were just a small try-out. I like making things without a pattern and it was finished in no time.I made this picture with our new camera. I'm still trying out but the photo's are looking good so far.

Embroidery

This is what I bought on a fair.

I like a lot of things that are dated in the 50's and 60's and are handmade. I know how much work it much have been to make such things. I'm not sure what the long embroidered cloth has been used for. Maybe it hung on a wall in a children's room.

I like the little mouse!

At first I wanted to cut it up but I will think about it for a while now. Once it is in pieces I can't put it together again.

And something different...

This one I also bought that same day. It is very nicely done and the back is almost the same as the front. It is made by hand and I think in the 60's or 70's. I never saw anything like this before but somehow it looks like it came from that period.

Houten klosjes/ Wooden spools

Yesterday I found these little wooden spools (hope this is the right word for them in English)at a fair. I hope I will find some more of them some day. Except for the bobbin with the singer brandname on it, all of them are not used. They remind me of the time I sewed all my dollcloths on this singer sewingmachine.

The other day I looked up the serialnumber from this machine and it appeared to be from the year 1905. Much older than I thougt, but there are still many of those machines left and for sale ( very strong I suppose). I don't use him anymore but I'm very happy that it is still with me.

scraps

I found these scraps in a big box and there were really piles of them. It seemed boring to use them again because most of them I already used in quilts for my kids more than 20 years ago. Last week I wanted to clean up a lot of the old stuff, so I sewed everything together in one big top using a pattern on the website of Bonny Hunter Only I started with squares 6x6cm and in the pattern Bonny started with strips which is an easier way of doing it, I think. It was really great fun making this top although it is maybe a bit too scrappy!

This is de very first time for me to join a 'swap'. I think it's very exciting! I received all the details about my swap-partner so now I can start thinking about wat to make and which fatquarters to send.

Normally I wright only in Dutch but maybe some people would appreciate it if I wright in English too? If I keep it simple I will be okay. My vocabulary is not that big and there will be some mistakes but I will try. I get all the help from under the table where my 2 little dachshunds (teckels, we call them) are lying!

civil war diary quilt top

Bijna klaar!
